Athene Tarrant / Presenter
Athene was born in England, brought up in Canada and completed her education with a Bachelor of
Architecture degree from the University of Washington in America. After college she returned to
England where she was elected to the RIBA and began practicing architecture, specializing in hospitality
design. She taught architectural design and interior design at universities in England and the US.
She has always made time for community involvement, whether helping lead a successful effort to save
Covent Garden from demolition or founding a Children’s Theatre in Ohio. Over time, she became
intrigued by people’s personal stories, whether that of the man running the corner store, the
businesswoman juggling career and children, the actor or the janitor. With the idea of memorializing all
the stories she hears, Athene began a podcast, Barnstorming, for which she interviews people in all
walks of life and all fifty states.
Athene and her husband of forty years, Bryan Tarrant, currently reside in Washington State. They have
four children and five grandchildren.
Athene is thrilled that WRS is giving her the opportunity to share these stories with its audience.
Perhaps they will discover what she has learned while living in England, Canada, China and now back in
America: Everyone, everywhere has an interesting and often poignant tale to tell. As we listen to each
story, we are reminded that we all live side by side in a fascinating, albeit most personal world.
