Hello and welcome to the Feng Shui Foon Show with me, Ting Foon Chek, International Feng Shui Master and Chinese Astrologer on Women's Radio Station. On today's show, we're going to be talking about the Chinese horoscopes for October. In the Feng Shui Fun Show, we offer you regular horoscopes and Feng Shui tips to empower you to live your best life. So let's talk about October and Dog Month. Dog Month is the end of the autumn season in Chinese astrology, and it's when the Earth energies are quite strong. It's a time for you to be more practical, be more grounded. The Dog also encourages you to nurture your relationships. It's a time for you to return to your own ground zero of who you are and who you want to connect with. If you have any questions for the Feng Shui Foon Show, Email presenters@womensradiostation.com or tweet us @WomensRadioSTN. We'd love to hear from you. So let's now talk about each of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs for October. Let's start with the Rat. How can you tell if your year animal sign is the Rat sign? Well, 1972 was a Rat year. So if you were born in 1972, your Chinese year animal sign is the sign of the Rat. If you want to work out other Rat years, add 12 to 1972 to get 1984 and so on, or minus 12 to get 1960. An easy way for you to check is to download our free app from www.fengshuiapps.com. That's fengshuiapps.com, where you can input your birth information and find out your year animal, month animal, day animal, and hour animal. Let's now talk about the year animal for the Rat. Now, October, it's a time for you to talk things through, to be a little bit more open. Could there be an elephant in the room? What sort of dilemma have you been ignoring? Sometimes the more you try not to think about or not to talk about something, the more it stays on your mind. Rather than pretending something isn't happening or something hasn't been said, Talk about it. You'll find you can soon move on and you'll feel better connected to those around you. Ox. Now Ox year, as an example, is 1973. So you can add 12 on to see if you're born in an Ox year, or you can deduct 12 from 1973. And remember, You can download our app and find out your year animal. Now, during October, for the Ox, you might find there'll be those around you who are trying to persuade you to change your mind. You have reasons to stick to your position, and you're not going to budge in a hurry. Do they have good grounds to convince you? You're open to listening to all sides of the argument and you're flexible enough to make some compromises. You make it clear where you'll be unmovable and where there's some room for manoeuvre, so there's some sort of negotiation. When you can do that, you will find a way forwards. Tiger. Tiger. How do you know if your year animal sign is the Tiger? Well, the Tiger year was 1974, so again, add 12 for the next Tiger year, minus 12 for 1962 for the previous Tiger year. And you can also get your year animal sign from our app. Tiger, in October, you're going to be eager to do something exciting. Your Tiger personality loves new things and you're full of enthusiasm. Remember not to get too carried away. There can be a fine line between being gung-ho and going to extremes. When you rush into things, you might find your interest starts to wane, so better to pace yourself steadily throughout this month and you will be able to Enjoy all the new things that are coming your way. So let's talk about the Chinese horoscope for October for the Rabbit. How can you tell if you're born in the year of the Rabbit? You can of course download our app, the Chinese Destiny Stars Astrology App, onto your phone. However, I can tell you now that the year of the Rabbit was 1975, and the Rabbit occurs every 12 years, so 1987 is also a Rabbit year, and 1963 was also a Rabbit year. So if you're a Rabbit during October, you might find you need to make up your mind, and it's not that straightforward. Could it be you're faced with two equally good options. Sometimes you might need to take some time to go back and forth to figure out what would be the best choice for you. Maybe you need to trust your gut instincts and listen to your inner voice. Take some time to sit quietly and see what comes through. At the same time, be prepared to seek out the opinion of those who could also help you see things a little more clearly. So make up your mind and follow through for a fantastic month ahead. Dragon, watch out for those moments when you might feel that tempers are a little frayed, whether it's you or somebody else you're dealing with. There are some quarrels which are not worth your time fighting over. Knowing where and when to draw the line for to end a discussion could save you a lot of time, effort, and emotional energy. Sometimes you got to be prepared to let others say what they want and not pay too much attention to it. So Choose your company wisely. If you're wondering if you're born in the Year of the Dragon, 1970— 1976 was a Dragon Year, and of course the year animals go in cycles of 12, so 12 years on from 1976, 1988 is a Dragon Year, and 12 years before 1976 1964, also a Dragon year. And of course, you can download our app to get your year animal sign. Snake. Snakes were born in 1977 and also cycles of 12, so 1989 and 1965 were also Snake years. Now, for the Snake in October, Remember, October is Dog Month. It seems as if you might not be in possession of all the facts this month, so be prepared to seek out more information. You're aware of who you can rely on and who you don't want to rely on, yet there still could be some unusual sources for confirming facts. Be prepared to ask around, be prepared to go down some new avenues, and you could soon find an answer that's been eluding you. So you'll get to the bottom of things during October. So that's the first 6 signs of the Chinese horoscopes. In Part 2, we'll be We'll be talking about the Horse, the Goat, the Monkey, the Rooster, the Dog, and the Pig. I'm Dr. Sarah, and welcome to Medicine Matters, your roundup of medical news, and I'll be taking your medical questions by text and tweet. Susie has tweeted @WomensRadioSTN to say that she's been told that she's at risk of osteoporosis. But she's only in her early 30s. Well, Susie, obviously within the constraints of a tweet, you're not able to give me too much information, but perhaps I can run through what osteoporosis actually is and then why you may be at risk of it. Osteoporosis is a condition where you have a normal amount of bone, but the bone that you have does not have enough calcium, so that's effectively chalk in it, so the bone gets soft, and that leaves you at risk of developing hip fractures and spinal fractures, which are both dangerous and painful. Obviously, it would be very rare to have that in your early 30s, but there are some conditions that could predispose to it. If you have a family history, so let's say your mum or your aunt has had osteoporosis, or an older sister, then it's worth getting checked out. And also if you're slight, so anyone who's got a BMI of under about 20 is at risk. The things that are good for stopping osteoporosis are having obviously a good healthy diet and weight-bearing exercise. So anyway, even just walking is, is really good and getting out in the sunshine a bit. Now the other thing is that women these days tend to run a very low vitamin D, and I think that's because we've all become so paranoid really about sun exposure to the extent that we're going out in winter with factor 50 on. I'm not saying you shouldn't be careful in the sun, but you do— the body does need a little bit of sun to make that vitamin D to keep the bones strong. So there's two ways of tackling that. Either you do let yourself be exposed to the sun, or if you really don't want to, you can get over-the-counter vitamin D supplements. But I think it's worth getting your doctor to check your vitamin D levels before doing that. Now, if you've got lots of those risk factors, there is a test. It's called a DEXA scan. It's a very, very, very low dose of radiation, and you can get that done, and it can actually non-invasively measure your bone density. So I would say two or more of those risk factors, and I would arrange to get that done. And we've got another question that's come in by tweet. Hi Dr. Sarah, why is there no therapy offered to post-gastric bypass people? They need help to change the way they relate to food. Well, I couldn't agree more with that. There isn't enough help given to people who've had what we call technically bariatric surgery. And really they should have some therapy beforehand because it's a very sudden change to your body and not being able to eat, and the anticipation of that I think needs some sort of structure. I really can't vouch for why the NHS doesn't provide this sort of therapy. The other thing is that after the gastric surgery, which is very effective for the vast majority of people, they do lose substantial amounts of weight and it makes them much physically healthier, but the way that their body shape has transformed can actually have psychological changes. Now, we'd like to think that everybody would just be happier for being thinner, but it doesn't always work like that. And changing— a really dramatic change in your external appearance, you do run the risk of developing some psychological issues. And also the way that people relate to you changes, uh, particularly interpersonal relationships, and quite often even in long-term ones. So you may find that your husband or your partner is behaving slightly differently around you when you're suddenly literally half the person that, that you used to be. So it's a very good question, and I think it's a real shame, and I would counsel anybody who's thinking of having a gastric bypass actually to try and save up a bit in order to perhaps see a counsellor for a few sessions before and after. I've been contacted by text by Diana, who's asking, 'Is it really true that when you're taking antibiotics you're not allowed to drink alcohol?' Because she's been told by two different doctors two different things. I think that's quite characteristic. I think if you speak to a lot of doctors, you'll probably get different bits of information out of them. In reality, and let's assume you're not on any other drugs, there's only one group of antibiotics that you really shouldn't drink alcohol with, and those are the ones characteristically that are given to you for gut infections or dental infections. And the reason you shouldn't drink alcohol them is because they are almost exactly the same drug as Antabuse, which is a drug that's given to alcoholics because it makes, uh, it has— it just gives you a horrible reaction if you do drink any alcohol. So that is a complete no-no. I would say for most antibiotics that people are given for routine infections, and again assuming they're not liver infections because you'd want to be staying off alcohol anyway under those circumstances, then it's sensible to ask your doctor whether you really should be drinking. And obviously especially if you're ill, you should only be drinking in moderation anyway because there's nothing like having the flu and a few glasses of wine to make you feel even worse. So next time you're prescribed any antibiotics, Diana, just double-check with who's giving them to you. Welcome back to the Feng Shui Fun Show on Women's Radio Station, the program where we empower you to create the best life with our Feng Shui tips and regular monthly horoscopes. We're talking about October, Dog month. We've covered the first 6 Chinese zodiac signs in Part 1. Let's now finish off with the remaining 6 animal signs. There are a total of 12 Chinese year animal signs and each Each animal takes it in turn to rule a year. Let's now talk about the Horse. Now, Horse year was 1978, so if you're born in 1978, your year animal sign is the Horse. If you add 12 to 1978, that's 1990. That was a Horse year, and If you minus 12 from 1978, 1966 was also a Horse year. Do download our app so you can input your birth details and check your year animal sign. Now for the Horse in October. When you're clear about your own ideas, you're not going to be overly concerned about how others see things. Your horse is quite an independent character. At the same time, there could be those around you this month who could really support you in what you're doing. So don't try too hard to do everything on your own. Be clear about where you're heading, what you want, and what ideas you want to pursue. When you can see your path ahead, you can start off with a trot and soon you'll be galloping through the month. Goat. How do you know if your Chinese year animal sign is the goat? Well, 1979 was a goat year, and remember, each animal takes it in turn to rule a year and there are 12 animals. So 1991, which is 12 years on from 1979, was a Goat year, and so was 1967, 12 years before 1979. Now, to check if you're a Goat or any other animal sign, download the Chinese Destiny Stars Astrology app onto your phone for free and input your birth details to find out. For October, for the Goat, do you feel you're having to deal with some rather stubborn people? How can you get them to open their eyes to see things a little bit differently? They might choose not to pay too much attention to your point of view. Still, it's worth your while to try to persuade them— gently. If you can appreciate how they see things and imagine standing in their shoes, that could help you find a way for them to see things from your point of view. Talk things through, and when you reach a conclusion you'll see that there's more than one way of looking at the same situation. Monkey. Now, Monkey Year was 1980, so if you're born in 1980, you're born in the Year of the Monkey. And 12 years before 1980, 1968 was a Monkey Year, and 12 years Ahead, 1992 was also a year of the Monkey. So if you're born in the year of the Monkey, what does October, Dog Month, hold for you? Your Monkey personality often has a lot of questions, and when it comes to finding answers, you can be tempted to look here to look there and all over the place and be quite busy gathering the facts. Stand still for a while. The question might be complicated, yet the answer might be quite straightforward. See if you can make sense of what you already know rather than search around for more details. Trust that you will be able to find the answer the answer you're looking for, and you'll soon see that the month is going to turn out very well for you. Rooster. Rooster year was 1981, so if you were born in 1981, your year animal sign is the rooster. 1969, was also a Rooster year, and so was 1993. So, Rooster, you tend to think that you can do things well, and that's true a lot of the time. This month, be open to offers of support from others. You could find that they can do something that you can't quite do in quite the same time or with the same efficiency. Getting help from others could make a big difference. Remember to say a big thank you and give lots of praise and a big thank you to those who lend you a hand. Dog. Were you born in the year of the dog? Well, dog year was 1982. 1994 was also a dog year, and so was 1970. Now, is it true that for some people their bark is really worse than their bite? Listen to what people are saying and see if they'll follow through. At the same time, be aware of your words. Could it be that you're saying things without intending to follow through, whether it's a positive action or an action which you're not so sure is the right thing for you to do? Think about what you're going to say and what you're going to do. It will make a difference when you're clear in your own mind about what you mean. Let's talk about the Chinese horoscope for the sign of the Pig in October. How do you know if you're born in the Year of the Pig? 1971 was a Pig year, and if you count 12 years ahead, so was 1983, and 12 years back, 1959. Remember, you can download the Chinese Destiny Stars Astrology app onto your phone to get your year animal sign. Pig in October: Others might come to you for advice, yet you might not want to give them the answers. Could that be you want to give them encouragement to figure out a few things for themselves so that they can learn and grow. If you're the one that's asking questions, maybe there's a few lessons you need to learn, and when you find the answers, you'll feel so delighted that you found it out through the lesson known as experience. So may Dog Month bring you lots of lovely experiences and have a great month ahead. You've been listening to the Feng Shui Foon Show on Women's Radio Station.
