And I'm gonna have to warn you guys, you're probably going to be drooling and craving really unhealthy but delicious food by the end of this hour or so because today we're talking all about donuts. Yeah, that's right. An episode dedicated to everything there is and nothing else. With me on the show today is donut expert Hayley Wiltshire. Did I say that right? Yeah, you say, Hayley. Hello. Thanks for chatting with me today, Hayley. You're so welcome. So now Hayley isn't an official donut expert, but I definitely consider her as one and I'll be explaining why very shortly. Now, first I just want to talk about a cool wings place real quick because it's not donut related, but I have to talk about it. I went to this awesome place called Tinseltown yesterday. Have you heard of it, Hayley? I've never heard of it. Never heard of Tinseltown? Okay, well good, because I'm going to. And you're going to probably want to go to this afterwards. It's such a cool place. But obviously vegetarians and vegans are going to hate me for talking about this, but Tinseltown is basically a diner style wings restaurant and they specialize in wings, but they also do wraps and burgers and chicken strip meals, that kind of stuff. It's great because when you're feeling like a chicken or meat kind of day, they're the place to go to. And they do really nice sauces as well. The flavoring is on point. Like if you want like Texas barbecue, they've got that covered. They got Cajun spices as well. It's just so perfect. Yeah, so I mean, they've got so much variety as well in terms of like, what kinds of Chicken flavoring you want, which is. I never get that. I've never found a place that does that so well. And when I went, I went a bit crazy, my friend and I, because we were starving, so we got like a million plates. So I got the Texas barbecue wings as a starter, and we also got some chicken strips. And then we went a bit crazy with the wraps as well. We got two wraps, and they were quite healthy, actually. Like, you think that an American diner place that does fried chicken? Yeah. You think it wouldn't be very healthy, but it was grilled chicken wrap. And you can even get, like, a side of salad, which is really generous of them. But who do that? Right? I obviously, I got myself fries and that was cool. And then they do a mashed potato as well. That's the side they have. And it's like. It's a free side as well. So you got yourself a little meal. It's great for lunchtime. That sounds beautiful. Yeah, it's perfect. I love that place. Which is why I said I have to mention on the show. So they have branches all over London, like Notting Hill Gate, Tottenham Court Road, amongst many others. So there's no excuse not to give it a go. Welcome back to Gold Foodies. I'm here with Hayley, my donut expert. Hey. Hello. So we're moving away from the chicken talk that we've just been having to the sweet, sugary talk on donuts. I'm drooling. Just think. Thinking about it. So, Hayley, I think we should explain why I consider you an expert on donuts. So why don't you tell us a little bit about your donut background? So, always been a fan of the donuts all the way through my life. Got a very sweet tooth. So do I. Yeah, I feel like we all do. I just. I'm one of these people that can get through, like, a whole pack of ice buns in, like, 10. 10 minutes. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure I could do that, but I just don't want to try because I know what's going to happen to my little belly here. Oh, my God. And you have, like, such a huge passion for donuts, right? Because I. Every time we talk, donuts always come Up. It's like, so I just love them. I love donuts. It's probably quite bad. I went to. So I traveled America in the summer, and we went to Voodoo Donuts, which is a quite, well, very famous donut brand based in Portland. But I think they're all over the. The American states and all that. Really loved it. Came back here and then noticed that Donut Time was opening in the uk, which are in Australia. Donut brand, a little bit of, like, competition, really wacky flavors. So, like, I'm just gonna do it. I'm gonna apply. I need the money. I'm just gonna do it. And now I'm obsessed every single time. And now you work at a Donut place as well, don't you? Yeah, that's where I work. So cool. You love it and you work. I feel like your whole life is gonna be donut centered. Like, imagine, you know, those donut pillows. I know. I mean, then there's like, donut wallpaper as well. I'm pretty sure that's gonna be, like, your future home. So how long have you been working at Donut Time? I've been working there since about October. Awesome. Okay, so I want to know what is the coolest part about working at Donut Place? Aside from the free donuts, of course. Okay. So, yeah, the free donuts, definitely a perk. I like that. It's actually very social. So a lot of people don't like retail. But I love retail now because how can you be unhappy when you're buying a donut? Yeah. And you hear so many good stories because it's so cute. Sometimes you get, like, guys coming home from work, and they're like, my girlfriend's had a really bad day, so what donut do you think she'd like? And it's like, she'd love this one. Especially if you've got such a passion for donuts. There's so much you can. You'd want to talk about. And they're buying donuts, so that's a perfect place to talk about donuts, isn't it? I think the best part about Donut Time specifically is that all of the donuts are named after puns. And like. Awesome. Yeah. So we've got a donut covered in M&MS, and it's called Slim Shady. And we have a donut called Mary Cherry, which is obviously named after Mary Berry. Classic. Loads of others. We've got a donut with Percy pigs on the classic Ms. Brand, and it's called Notorious Pig. Oh, wow. So, yeah, lots of different puns. I mean, I just want to try it just for the name. Just be like, I just had myself a notorious pig. I mean, they taste really good as well. I think a lot of people think that we suck them in with the puns, but they do taste incredible. Everyone loves puns and everyone loves donuts. So, Kate, there's something that I. I really want to know because the different donut places do donuts differently. I mean, they taste different wherever you go. So is there like a spec. Like a unique way to make donuts? Is there different ways to make donuts or is it just the flavoring? I think it is the flavoring. Probably the dough. I think that's the main thing. So what's the process? They're usually all fried. So basically dough and then deep fryer and then those things get deep fried right up. So you know when you go to, like fairgrounds and you can like smell that donutty smell in the air and they made like fresh and they come out on the roller thing and then they're covered in sugar. Yeah. So it's like looks so good just to watch it go around. So some places do baked donuts so you can get the dough and bake them in the oven. And it's healthy. That's healthier. So who wants to do that? And then some people do fried doughnuts, so just tossed either side or like ring donuts all the same sort of way, to be honest. And then they're usually. If they're like sugared, they're usually like powdered straight away when they're hot so that it like sticks on and then they're hot. So it's kind of like the glaze of the normal. Yeah. Classic donut. When you think about Krispy Kreme. Yeah. That's they make. And I don't know if you've ever been, but they make Krispy Kremes in store so you can actually watch them. Really? Yeah. And they all come out and they're like hot when you eat them. No, because I've only been to like, the kiosk versions of kiosk, the one that you find at like in the middle of the mall. And I just grabbed myself. That's my go to one is the Nutella one that they have the best. We've got so many good Nutella ones at donut time today. Well, I know where I'm going after the show. That's my stop. My Nutella stop for today. Take you on down. Oh, I love that. I mean Every place that does Nutella based food is my favorite place. So I have a few of those. Let's talk top three. Now I want to know what are your top. In your opinion, your top three donut places here in London. Okay. So I'll put donut time aside because obviously I'm biased. I'd say if you fancy a little bit more of an upmarket donut, you're fancying like a posh kind of vibe. Different flavors. Flavors that you normally wouldn't expect to go together, like blood orange and pistachio and like, quite. I'm not sure how to put it in a donut. Yes. I've never heard of that before. So they're very like. They're a bit more chic, a bit more. You take these to the office on Friday, right? Crosstown donuts. Crosstown. Cool. They've got a lot of branches over London. I think they might be branched out, but I'm not entirely sure. So is it like stuffed with like. Some of them are. There's a peanut butter and jelly donut that they do. Classic. Yeah. They've got a matcha tea donut. Oh, wow. That was a big phase for a while. Yeah. Awesome. Okay, so that. Would that be your first? It's so hard because I just love donuts. There's so many. I'd say bread ahead, which if you haven't been. I think they've got two ranches, but their main one is in Borough Market. Cool. Yeah. Which I'm sure you probably talk about quite a lot. Borough Market. There's so much going on over there and there's not enough, like, recording time for me to talk about on the show. You should just go around there being like, hi, guys, can you give us a quick rundown of what you sell? You know what, that's a good idea. I'll just do a whole episode dedicated to Borough Market. It's gonna happen, guys. It's gonna happen. I think that would be a great time. I'm so excited now. All right. Okay, so that is bread ahead. Bread ahead. Okay, so bread ahead. You think they'd be quite basic when you looked at them. They're filled with chocolate, I think. Nutella, custard jam, your usual. Awesome. But really lovely and fresh. And the jam just tastes amazing. And I'm not a custard fan, but a lot of people say that the custard is really good. Yeah, I mean, I. I remember when I was younger, custard stuffed donuts were like the thing that was. That was all I Thought donuts was, I mean, forget Krispy Kreme's ring, you know, the glazed classical ring donuts. Custard stuffed donuts was the thing. It was huge. Yeah, that's what. We had that for breakfast. I'm down for that so bad. My mom's probably gonna get shunned after this, but she used to feed me custard stuffed donuts for breakfast and it was the best thing ever, so I don't regret it. Last one. What's your last and final favorite donut place? I remember we were talking before the show and I was talking about Dum Dum Donuts. Oh, yeah. In Port Bella Road Market. Yeah. Portobello Road Market. They've also got a pop up at Box park in East London at the moment, which is really good to go to if you want to try. Yeah. Whenever I'm in Portobello Road Market, I'm always passing it by and it looks so good in the window and it's, it's nice and pink and like really flashy and looks so good. But I never, I'm always tempted, but I never go there because I'm like, I know what's gonna happen to my body if I, if I do purchase. They're also good at the Cronut. Oh, yeah. Hello and welcome to who Am I With Natalie. But this is my short film fix for you today. And today I'm interrupting this lovely Gold Foodies episode to tell you about my experience of the Equalizer 2. Equalizer 2 is an American vigilante thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua, and it's a sequel to obviously the Equalizer. Now, as a general rule, I'm not a huge fan of sequels because in my personal opinion, the first one is always the best film. A few exceptions, you know, Toy Story 1, 2 and 3. Also absolutely amazing. But what I will say is I really, really enjoyed the Equalizer. If you're a fan of pure violence and hearing bones crack, this is definitely one for you. But it's also got a really human edge to it, which is perfect for anyone who likes to be a bit emotional when they go to the cinema. There's a particular moment at the end that I will say if you, if, you know, if you're having a bit of an emotional time, probably not the best for you. I cried a little tear at the end. I can't spoil it for you because it was just a beautiful moment. I spent the whole film kind of attached to a certain storyline. What's really nice about the film is it does make you care about the characters instead of just being pure violence thriller, which is really nice. A special shout out to the composers of this film because honestly, the soundtrack just leads you into that emotion perfectly. It's not, it's obviously, you know, it's not going to be an Oscar winner, but it's definitely something enjoyable to sit down and watch with your friends and family and really, really enjoy and get into. But the music, definitely massive shout out because, yeah, the score is sublime. So basically it's out next week. Do go and watch it. I would advise you to do that. So you're talking. You mentioned the cronut, and I really want to talk about this because it's such a huge thing now to merge donuts with different things. So I was talking on the show about sushi donuts one, and that's something that, I mean, I really want to try it, but I haven't come across it yet. And it's basically, it's sushi, but in the shape of a donut. You'll probably see it, like, on Facebook and stuff. And you can also check out on the website if you guys want to take a look at some really cool pictures of it. It looks awesome. And then obviously, we've got the cronut, which is the croissant donut. And there's so much going on now. And I want to know, like, what do you think about that? I mean, as a donut lover, are you all for this? Okay, so the cronuts that I've tried, I am a fan of, I think I definitely. I don't know, I'm more into, like, bread. So, like, maybe, like, I'm a bit biased towards the classic donut. And I am a bit of a traditionalist. Like, I like things to be kept how they are. I mean, that's. That's the issue. It's like you. You love. You'd love all of these trends because it's kind of like changing the game for donuts and. And food all around. But at the same time, you don't want to move on from the classic stuff that we have. I just think. Okay, so I think, yeah, go ahead, buy cronuts. The beautiful thing about cronuts is that you can get them different flavors. So you can get them, like, chocolate and all that, or like, the normal kind of vibes. And then, I mean, matcha tea, like, we mentioned that, didn't we? Oh, yeah, Matcha tea. By all means, put matcha tea in your donuts if you want to be green and pure. I mean, it's cool. Really cleanse your body. It's cool in the sense of, like, flavoring. You've got all these different flavors of donuts. But I mean, the cronut and the sushi donut, that's obviously the sushi donut is the donut shape. I think you can get pizza donuts, too. No way. Like, with, I think, a bit Like a bagel. That kind of vibe. Okay, that's. I don't know how I feel about that, but I love pizza, so I might just give it. If I ever. I mean, if I ever come across these things, I'm definitely going to give it a go. Just to say that I've tried it and then see what I feel about it. But obviously you'll never know until you try it. The thing with food is that you've got to like go right in there and just kind of go with the. Go with the. Exactly. I mean, you can't be skeptical about everything that comes you come across. But I don't know how I feel about taking classical food and just twisting it. I mean, it's being done all over the place nowadays. It's such a huge trend now. Can we put matcha tea with chicken? That kind of vibe. I hope that doesn't ever happen. Well, this isn't like donut related, but there's also the muffin croissant. So the, the croissant muffin. Yeah, it's really weird and it's like a croissant stuffed in with a muffin. And that's actually happening in Australia right now. I talked, I talked about on the show Australia come out with some right bangers. I mean, they came out with donut time, so that's great. Well, guys, I just wanted to tell you that the original creator, the patissier that came up with the idea of the creating a cronade actually opened a store in London earlier last I think at the end of the last year. So in the shop every month you can enjoy a different flavor for cronade. So there's always a mix between a fruit, like some fruits or creams, and there's always a mix in flavors between the filling and the ganache on the outside. Coming to this shop is actually quite a pleasure since he only has a stores in Tokyo and New York. So the London store is the only European location. So for this month there is this adorable and super delicious banana and pineapple cronut. This is as a pineapple jam in the inside and is covered on a banana ganache. If you want to pop in the store, the closest station is Victoria. That's Victoria line as well.
