Welcome to Judy Mayer's Listening. This is the show where you tell me what's happening in your life and I listen. And together we transform everything. And welcome, welcome, welcome. This is Judy Mae Murphy here in studio. I have the two most incredible women for you to meet, Alex and Giselle. Alex has come all the way over from Norway to be here with us and Giselle has flown in from New York. So I will be introducing them to you very, very shortly. But first of all, let me tell you what we're going to be chatting about today because here on women's radio station, we're all about supporting women's well being. And a big part of well being that we forget about is the fact that we have this innate need to adventure. We have a need to both grow and to have variety. And those two things are really adequately met, more than adequately met, when we do it really with adventuring in our lives. And I think that for some people, we think of adventures as just, I'm going to spend a week and I'm going to go snowboarding. Great, great adventure, or an adventure might be. I'm going to go off with my girlfriends for the weekend and we're going to go and see Busted or whatever it was was your thing earlier on in the day. And I'm going to have a great time doing that and we're going to see the sights. Fantastic. For other people then adventure is more about just taking a year off and going sailing with the kids around the world. A couple of clients of mine, beautifully, very successfully a few years ago, and I think that our associate producer here at Ellsworth just pointed out to me right before the show started was to remember that adventure is different for everybody. Everybody has different abilities when it comes to adventure. Because for me, when I was 26 years old, I went off and lived in Kathmandu just at a time in the 90s where I'd never even seen a picture of Kathmandu. I didn't actually know. I just really liked the name and I just thought it was cool. Couldn't decide between China and India. Hey, that's bank slap in the middle. Let's do that. And I have this really great appetite and great capacity for adventuring. Same with the rest of my life. The fact that I have always owned my own business. I've never worked for anybody else. Even when I was working in television, I was freelance. I could pretty much hire and fire myself every week. And for some people, that would just be the stuff of nightmares. That would just be too much. So please remember that when we're talking about adventure, we're talking about your version of adventure. For some people, adventuring in relationships is their favorite kind of adventure. For other people, it might be adventuring academically. For others, it might be adventuring in a particular project. And it could just be your own healing. Your own healing could be the adventure of a lifetime. Just getting yourself to a point where you feel good, even great in your day, having days where you don't feel like there's something wrong with you or that you're about to drop off the edge of the planet. And today we're going to be talking about different forms of adventure, different ways that we can adventure. What I love about these two ladies is that they get that adventure isn't a shallow show offy thing. They're not the kind to just go and do something in order to stick it up on Instagram and say, hey, look at me, I'm better than you. They really are inspiring. So when they do let you know about what they're doing, it's in order to say, hey, and you know what, you can do this too. It's in order to inspire within their own communities. So first of all, let's meet Giselle. Hi, good afternoon. Welcome, welcome. London. Yeah, right. But you've been over here on the BBC before. I know it's not your first time over here. So how would you identify? Tell us a little bit about yourself, because I know all about you, but I'm introducing you to everybody. Tell us about yourself and how is it that you see yourself as an adventurer? Well, about myself, I mean, I'm a coach, I'm a speaker, author. But honestly, I didn't think about adventure until you called and told me, come on, we're talking about adventure. And then when I read what you wrote about adventure and that I was a life adventurer, I was like, whoa. She just gave me what I have truly been my entire life. For me, I think adventure has started from being little, and it really started in just being a rebellious child. And I think that there's a lot of adventure in taking risks. And as a kid, all those things that you're told not to do, I did them and I did them wholeheartedly and full out until I learned my lesson why I shouldn't do it. So what's one of legal things that you did as a kid? Legal, Legal. Fun, adventure, rebellious thing. Oh, my gosh. I mean, anything related to boys. Okay, got it. I think that painted as full a picture as we need. In a small way, yes. Boys. Boys were legal, right? Yes. Depends what you're doing. But yeah. Yeah. But as an adult, I think that, again, it's based in risk. And just when you say that adventure is different for everybody. Just doing something uncomfortable, that's kind of on the edge. That's kind of like, if I do this, what will happen next? Will it work out or will it not work out? And just taking that experience to learn more about yourself, because it's really like you and yourself. Like, nobody else is taking the risk with you. And it is. It is definitely a mindset, isn't it? It's not something that anybody's going to hand to you and say, now would you like to. Unless they're listening to this show, no one's going to say, now, would you like to have a much more adventurous life? And I remember about seven years ago, you called me when you heard that I was going to be in Kenya, and you just sort of said, hey, I'm in some other country in Africa. And be like, hey, why don't I fly in and we can hang out? And even then, when we got there, where were we? We were like, we were in Mombasa, and that's the island off of Kenya. And were we on an island? See, I didn't even know that. This is my. I rarely know where I am on the planet. That's how much I gloat on. And I was in Zambia. And your words are always, make it happen. And, like, when you say, make it happen, that's where the adventure pops in. And it's like, how in the hell am I gonna do this? And I figure it out. And to get to you was three days and three nights on a bus. I'd forgotten that part. Yes, it was. But you just decided that it was going to be worth it. It was gonna be worth it. Yeah, I'll see you when I get there. But I remember as well then, you know, you expanded that even further because we were staying at this luxury resort, and they had a stage and there's a wonderful band, and. And you suddenly just said to the table, you know what? I'm going to do this. And you got up and you sang. And that's not something like, you're not a professional singer. You're a professional standard. But you just said, right, this is a thing that I need to do. So it's not like, okay, I've spent this amount of time, three days and three nights on a bus. I'm good for adventure for a while. You're constantly finding Pockets of adventure in your day. Yes. It's interesting because you left the night. It was me and Carolina and we were there that evening when you left. And I danced and everyone is like, well, when did that happen? And I was like, oh, that happened yesterday because I was at the gym and I kept dancing in between machines. So the guy who worked at the gym was like, oh, you like to dance? And I'm like, yeah. And he was like, oh, you want to perform tomorrow? I'm like, sure. And in like an hour, we choreographed a dance and then we performed it. It's on YouTube. I'm just learning about that now. Oh, my gosh. I will check that out. But. But I love, I love that idea because it's sort of like you had a mini adventure dancing in between the. I do remember, you know, having a. All of us went off and had this insane great workout session. But then, you know, the fact that you were dancing in between the machines, that was like a mini adventure which then led to something bigger. And that's often the way, isn't it? Yes, absolutely. And to, you know, he experienced my adventure. And you bring people with you on the journey and if they participate and enjoy it, well, then they know, they know how to go and do that for themselves. And if they just stand on the sides and watch, well, then they'll just always be watching, being. But how is she doing that? How is this happening? Just get up and do it. Just do it live. And the best way to show people to do that is to go first, always. This is what it looks like. This is how to do something a little bit crazy, a little bit different, and A, not die and B, have a really great time doing it. Speaking about A, not dying, this next adventure, Alex, so extraordinary. I had a really good time a few weeks ago when you sent me a little message about how you had done. You were in Norway and you had done your first ski jump. So tell us a little bit about you and about your ski jump. Well, yes. Hello everyone. It's an adventure of the day really to me being here in the studio in London of all places in the world. Yes, I am a goal achiever and really so achiever is one of my main identities and another one very important that has been there all over, like throughout all these years was adventure. And the way I adventure or I see adventure is being really in this world, experiencing, being alive through discovering, exploring, searching for what's more, what more there is to experience, to see, to understand, to learn, people to meet, places to go so, yes, ski jump. I'm making this mini documentary series. It's a part of my huge, huge, impossible dream. It's called Everyday Stunts. So in each episode, I try something new, a new sport which is considered very unusual and often extreme. And this is something I have three rules that this is something I have never, ever tried before. This is something that challenges both my body and my mind in a new way. And it must be also something that is accessible, meaning I can drive there within one hour from my house. And when I was planning the series, I thought, okay, what would be the most. The most impossible sport ever to me? And it was ski jumping. So this one night, I just switched from never considering it before to asking, how can I make it possible? To me, and this is how it started. And that's just such an important way that we start is not, is it possible? But just presuming it is possible and saying, and now how? Because most people, they would look at, you know, a trip halfway across Africa to hang out for a few days, and they would say, not possible. Most people would think about something that they'd never tried before, something as perilous because it is very dangerous doing ski jumping, and sort of say, right, how is this possible? And what we're going to do after the break is we're going to be chatting a little bit more about that mindset and where it comes from, and for all of us, about times where we weren't adventurers and what that did to our souls, what that did to our minds, to our lives, to our love, to our sense of our identity, and just how the day went along. So hopefully now we've woken you up to the idea of what's possible and got you a little bit excited about your world again. And here's a question that I have for you. What is the thing, the most adventurous thing you've done, the thing that you are most proud of? What is it that you've done that you're most proud of? That was an adventure that maybe somebody else wouldn't describe as an adventure. It could be that they would describe it as just getting through. It could be that you were married to the wrong person and now you're divorced. And if you were to reframe that as an adventure where you had to do difficult things, where you had to get past things and move up, that's an adventure. It all counts. More after this. Welcome to Judy Mayer's Listening. This is the show where you tell me what's happening in your life and I listen and together we transform everything. You are here with Judy Mae Murphy. We are on women's Radio Station supporting women's well being. And today we're talking all about adventure. And my plan is that you will, by the end of this, even before the end of this, by the end of this sentence, maybe has that, that you will have remembered just how fun it is and how possible it is to adventure in your world. All the different ways we have of adventuring. And joining me today in studio, we have Alex from Norway and we have Giselle from New York. They are over here on an adventure. Flew in to take part in an incredible event we had in the Ritz which was all about building your business to sell it for millions. That was a really fun day. And they've been having their own little adventures as we go. And also today we decided we're going to turn that into an adventure as well. And Alex is actually flying out pretty soon after the show and she had a suitcase with her and she sort of mentioned something about, oh, yes, I have to get my right arm really strong. And I was looking at her arms, I was just like, why is her right arm less strong than her left? She looks pretty in proportion. What's that about? And she let me know it was archery. Tell us about that. Well, yes, that's my next everyday stunt, actually an additional one that I added just because I got this idea. So I thought, well, why not act on it? Well, tell me about this, tell me about this quick leap that you have between idea and action. Because a lot of people can have an idea and 15 years later it's still an idea and they keep regurgitating, agitating it as an idea. But with you, it seems that there's almost no time between idea and action. That's true. And there is a flip side of it as well, because I often, instead of what people often do that I think for years, sometimes even, oh, shall I do it? Can I do it? Or maybe not? Is it right for me? I just do it. At least I take first step. And usually this first step opens some new possibilities. So since I have a very, very, very creative mind, ideas pop up all the time and if I act on them, at least A little bit and create all these possibilities for myself. Then I end up with choosing and choosing a way which is so painful for someone like me. So it's really choosing away things, possibilities, ideas. But once I turn it into action, action, I just. I don't know, I just go with the flow and check where it was. It's just part of who you are now. That's an adventure. Yes, and that's an adventure. And I think really that I've been like this most of my life, if not the whole life. I love that. I love this kind of image of you just opening lots and lots of doors and taking that first step, maybe making the first phone call, sending an email, asking a question, changing something in your environment. And then you have real things to choose from. It's not just ideas to choose from, but you've got actual things to choose from. From. I love that. Yes. And you check. Really? I love the question that Giselle asked when. When you were reminding this trip to Africa when you suggested that you could meet. And the question you asked Giselle was not, oh, can I do it? It was, okay, how can I make it happen? And this tiny, tiny switch from can I or not, to just how it sets your brain in action. Really? Yeah. Your brain starts accessing in a very, very different mode. Brilliant. And, you know, we did say we were going to talk a little bit about times that we weren't adventurous. But before that, let's just look at what adventure is, because for some people, they are right now saying, okay, I get it, but I don't really want to do a ski jump. I don't really want to throw myself out of a perfectly, well working plane. I don't fancy, you know, trekking across Africa right now. Is there some daily way that you. Adventure? Because I know for me, I'm just constantly, constantly on the lookout for adventures and, you know, just finding out about someone, finding out what someone's name, what is it that they're about, or I'm usually out and about in Soho here in London, very early in the mornings. And for me, an adventure could be something like, you know, a flock of pigeons having a bath in a puddle. And I'll just stand and watch that for a while and not photograph it. Because sometimes when we start photographing, we start documenting really, really quickly and we can actually take the adventure out of it. We become sort of an observer in our own adventure, which takes the fun out of it. But what do you do on a daily basis that you would count as an adventure? Well, I think the keyword here is new. And I know that you have a tattoo, Judy Mei. I do, yes. My saying the tattoo you have is the Chinese symbol for new. Yes. Well remembered. I remember details. I don't know why. Cool. Details. Unusual. I always. I am always attracted to unusual. So new. It's as simple as that. Just try something new, however big or small it is. It might be just starting your day at a different time than usual. It might be just picking a movie of a gender that you wouldn't normally pick up and just find out if you actually enjoy it or not and what it's about. It might be just meeting another person that you've never met before and trying to connect and get to know them a little bit more than you would do. So I think it's all about really switching your mind from autopilot mode to this creative, exploring, observant. So let's set a little task to our tribe here on Judy Mae's Listening. How about if for the next week, if every single day you pick a new adventure, just a little daily adventure, something that you can very easily do. Giselle. What? I know you're really good at this. You're really good at, like, taking your day and making it gorgeous. Absolutely. What might be some ideas that these ladies could kick off with? So, interestingly enough, for me, an adventure is cooking. It sounds kind of weird because we do cook every day, but I love cooking, and it is the. I feel like cooking for me is meditation in motion. I don't think. I just do it. And I'm creative with the ingredients and I'm creative with the food. Food. And even the cooking of a meal is a process. What do I have? What do I need? Going to the supermarket? I adore going to the supermarket and just, like, finding something new. So it's like, what might be an example of something new that you would find. I know you don't like meat, but we're going to talk about meat because I love meat. And I'm sorry I'm not there yet, but going and finding, like, a good piece of meat. Back in the day, I grew up in a house where we seasoned meat with everything. And watching the cooking channel, you see that some meats, you only need salt and pepper. So to subtract from, like, what we're used to and find a good cut of meat which cooks well and tastes good, and to just add salt and pepper and then to add a variety of vegetables, Find new vegetables that you've never ate before and experience, experiment with Ways to cook them. And the next thing you know you have this plate of food is that you can never get in a restaurant. That makes me really happy. I do that every day. Oh, fantastic. And I know you're really into music as well. Oh, yeah. How do you adventure music? Because you know what I did for 15 years, I had the same ipod. It was like this tiny little square, it was pink and it just came everywhere with me. But it had the same music on it because something happened and I couldn't work out how to change the music. So it had the exact same music on it for 15 years. And luckily it was very well designed music. It was music that I loved. But then something happened to it about two or three months ago where I couldn't get the volume to go up. So if the volume went down, it stayed at that. And then it must have sat funny in my bag one day and it went all the way down. And since then I haven't been able to get a sound out of it. And it's been the biggest blessing because now I've just gotten so into things like Roy Orbison, into Simon and Garfunkel, I mean, stuff I never would have listened to before. Into Prokofiev, who was a favorite of mine from years ago, who I'd forgotten, but I kind of was almost forced to. Adventure in music. How do you adventure in music? I'm diverse in music and I think that music sets my mood. Like just this morning, this morning, there's this Eminem song that I listen to which is really, really vulgar. And I'm staying with my auntie. If she heard the words of that and how I jam out to it, she'd be like, oh, get out of my house. You know. But then at the same time, it's like, if I need a mood, where I need to settle down, there's this artist named Brian Crane and he writes this like beautiful meditation piano music. And that gets me to quiet my mind. So it's like I know exactly what music I need for my mood. And then I could, you know, go to the ballet or listen to classical and feel cultured, you know, but at the same time, I'm always coming back to my roots of hip hop and like really just cursing out a storm and jamming out. Spoken like a true New Yorker. I love it. I love it. Well, also, we're going back to this idea that Alex was saying about it has to start with the new that it's, you know, we do kind of get on a bit of a Treadmill, don't we? Of just. This is how life is. And we might be doing extraordinary, beautiful things. We might be, you know, we might love our breakfast. I mean, I eat pretty much the same breakfast every single day. But then on other days, I'll say, you know what? Let's do something. Let's do something very different today. Like with your avocado toast with avocado al souro. Yes. You use the rock salt. The way you could get adventure is order some black truffle salt. Oh, loving that. Loving that. Let's put black truffle salt on the list. Brilliant. Yeah. So it's something as small as rock salt to black truffle salt. What a beautiful, beautiful example. And this is what we're gonna do in life. This is what makes it good. I mean, the fact that just our brain keeps waking up. Because as we know, we have all these brain cells and really, our brains are boring right now. They're just so, so not boring. Bored. Because we're just not exciting ourselves enough. Very quickly, before we go into break, can you just tell me each one thing that you're looking forward to when you fly back home? An adventure that you're looking forward to make happen of whatever size. I'm really building my business, which has been one of the impossible goals, because I have finally, after all these years, found a way to merge my three passions that I thought were completely impossible to merge in a logical way. So, yeah, that's my biggest adventure. And it will take me probably many days. Oh, brilliant. And Giselle, what adventure are you looking forward to when you fly back? For me, I'm looking to strategize and plan a move with my fiance. It's time to switch house. Move house and get in a new environment and around the people that are really gonna support us. That's what I want. Oh, wonderful. And your fiance is gorgeous, isn't he? Isn't he? Oh, hello. Yes. Oh, I wanna go home. I really miss him. I was really sad last night. But how great is it that we just have all these different ways and when we. Ways of living, ways of being, decisions we can make. And I think with the word adventure, when we pop the word adventure in there, it does something, doesn't it? It kind of works as a swizzle stick on our life. And it just sort of says, oh, you know what a different feeling can go along with this. It doesn't have to be dutiful, it doesn't have to be heavy. It doesn't have to be pedantic. It doesn't have to be whatever the way you normally do things is, it doesn't have to be just getting through and then you can eventually go on vacation, but just making it that every day feels as good as a vacation feels that every day you're falling in love with yourself and the planet and other people and the possibilities. And goodness knows, we all need to fall in love right now. So more falling in love right after these. Welcome to the Women's Radio station supporting women's well being. This is the show where you tell me what's happening in your life and I listen and together we transform everything. So the reason that we're doing this show is because I was getting a lot of feedback from you guys that you're kind of dutifully building your dreams, dutifully building your lives, and you just weren't really getting a kick out of it. So I thought how much fun would it be if we did an entire hour all about adventuring deep and just really going for it? So here on WRS Women's Radio Station, we're all about supporting women's well being. And it's not enough just to feel okay. That's not well being, that's just okay. Okay is not okay, as we say. But instead we're going to just make sure that we are really juicing everything we can from this lifetime that we're really in every single moment having it be what it needs to be. We're not talking about being giddy with excitement the time. We're not talking about being happy all the time. Because sometimes we need the signals that come from what I call the negative emotions, the signaling emotions like rage, grief, anger, all those things are sending us really, really great messages. And we do need to work through them rather than avoiding them. However, there's one thing that we can do is we can have the mindset of this is leading me to a better place. And whenever we're adventuring, we always have that in mind that you know what, we're not going to stay here. No matter how good this is, we're going to move on to something else that's good or some other way of learning, some other way of. And the two people I have in studio with me today, Alex and Giselle, are two women I have admired for so long for their ability to just adventure on this planet and anytime. The very first time I met Alex, actually it was kind of fun. I was speaking at an event There was like 2,000 people in the audience. And I did this thing. I was closing off the event. It was one of those multi speaker events. There was about six of us. And I was on earlier in the weekend and then I was the last speaker as well. And I pretty much had people, I said to them, you know, just stand wherever you need to be in the auditorium, thinking some people would take some space at the side, some people would go toward the back, some people would stand on their chairs. Alex was the only person who came up on stage and stood right beside me. And I was just like, oh, hello. Okay, good, right. Love that. She really has this sense of putting herself wherever she needs to be. And then I remember the first time I met Giselle. She came up to me after an event in New York and just said, great, we need to know each other. She just had decided, she's just. She just knew Tribe. She just sort of said, said, this is it. We're in each other's lives. And I was just like, okay. And that really is what the adventure mindset is about. It's about going big and it's about saying, game on. But I wouldn't like to leave you with the idea that we are all that all the time, because sometimes we don't adventure. Sometimes we allow ourselves to get too caught up in the day to day, too caught up in the moment. So, Giselle, can you remember a time where your adventurous side kind of fell and what were the repercussions of that? I remember lots of times where that happens. It's kind of like a cycle. You go high, you go low, you go high, you go low until you learn to go low for less time. And for me, the low times are the worst. Low times is when depression sets in. You know, like, depression is real and it happens to us. And I know for me, there was about a year of my life that I spent in bed like a functioning person in bed. I would go to work for a few hours, I'd come home and I'd go back in bed, and it was just bed, shower, food, Netflix bed. And that's about it for a good year. I didn't talk to anybody. Like, there's no adventure in that. What brought you? So it's almost like you were living vicariously through the adventures of others on Netflix. Yes, Netflix is, you know, Netflix is good if it's part of the design, if it's inspiring you, and it's part of the adventure. But the point isn't to replace your existence with a Netflix Existence. So how did you move yourself out of that? Eventually, somebody else came into my life. A friend came over and she was like, come get up. Let's go. And the day she came over and she's like, let's go. She got me a job. We found a turtle crossing in the street. That was an adventure in itself. There was a huge turtle crossing my driveway. And we took the turtle, we brought it to a lake, and put it back in its natural environment. How wonderfully symbolic. Yeah. And then we, you know, just kind of chit chatted about what I was doing, which was absolutely nothing, and what I wanted to do, which she already knew. Like, I think sometimes you need the people who know what you're trying to do to come in and be like, this isn't what you're about. This is not what you're made of. Like, let's wake up here. And then at some point it just clicks where enough is enough. Like, I'm tired of being tired. And then how easy was it to move into adventuring in life again? Was it. I went into my plan B and maybe even C, you know, just to fill up my days with something. I went back to school. I got my master's. I'm pretty sure during the first two or three semesters, I was just existing in class and not really participating because it was something that I naturally enjoyed. It was easy, but it wasn't my dream. It was just so that I could find something else for me to do that's interesting. So basically, it's better to be on a road, even if it's not the road. At least you're on a road, and at least you're moving in some direction. Correct. And you're kind of training yourself how to be moving in some direction. Yes. So it's sort of like. Well, as coaches, we both know this, that sometimes people come to us and they say, I want to date, but I can't find anyone I'm attracted to. And our advice is always, well, date people you're not attracted to. Get good at dating. Get good at working out why you're not attracted. Start to notice. Does that change? So, yeah, just. Just getting on a road. Yeah. To an adventure. Brilliant. And, Alex, how about you? Has there ever been a time? Because I know you are just probably the most active person I've ever met. Like, there's always something going on. We've met in different places around. Around the world and at different times, and you're always doing something. But has there ever been a time where it's just been activity and not adventure. And do you differentiate between the two? Yes. Well, I think there have been plenty of times where when there was way too much activity even, probably, but not leading me in the direction that I really wanted to go, or a lot of activity on autopilot, as I mentioned earlier. But I think I'm quite good at catching myself on it. And each time I notice that my life or my growth has stagnated somehow, that it feels simply too comfortable, which is a pleasant place to be in and a dangerous place to be in if you are about growth and adventuring in life and getting as much as possible out of it. So I remember, for instance, this one day in this job where I stayed for way too long. It wasn't awful, but it was just this stagnation feeling staying there. So I stayed because of another big goal of mine, which was to buy my first apartment in Norway. And it was big. So I kind of sacrificed this need of adventures to make this happen. But you can always do something. So I caught myself on sitting in this office doing the work that I used to do every day. And it was just this feeling of dullness and dutifulness. And I thought, well, okay, what can I do to break this pattern and wake myself up, wake my brain up? And I thought, well, let's just hear with my boss if it would be possible to take a longer weekend off. She might say no, but what if she says yes? And I teamed up with another colleague of mine sitting in the office next door, also in this state of dullness, and we thought, okay, maybe we can fly somewhere. We didn't have that much money back then, but we still could fly. There are cheap flights to Paris. Great. Paris. What could I do in Paris? Well, I always dreamt about seeing Moulin Rouge live. Let's bought ourselves some tickets for Moulin Rouge. And this is exactly what we did just a few days later. I love that. So that was from a standing start. That was from a place of just nothing is happening to idea, flight. Idea, place, idea. Where exactly. And then as we talked about before, like your ability to take action and just put some. Put some wheels under anything that you think of kicked in. And then you just. You found yourself in Moulin Rouge. And then the great thing is when you're in that place, whether that is sitting in the Moulin Rouge or watching a turtle waddle into the lake, that, that then just. It really does wake up something, doesn't it? Because I remember there were times where, you know, I'd Be on book tours, for example, and I'd be like. Like, literally one time in the middle of the night, I got really freaked out because I couldn't remember what city I was in. In. I was in another hotel, and I'd flown in the day before, and I was doing a gig that. That day, and there was a driver gonna be picking me up. But I just felt lost on the planet. And it ended up being Minneapolis. Is that right? Is Minneapolis. Minneapolis? Is that where the mall? Minnesota. Minnesota? Is that in. See, I don't even know now. But I had to go, where's the princess from? I had to go, and I had to. It was only when I found a. One of those little pads of paper that they have in the hotel desk and in the desk in the room, and I put it on, and I was just like, oh, yeah, that's where I am. So even some things that would seem on paper to be really exciting when it gets to that point, you know, it's not an adventure anymore. But then the thing I remember the next day was it was the first time I ever had butternut squash soup. Was there just right before that gig. She let me make you some. Me too. Without the meat. As long as I have a feeling that you'd slip a steak in there. Not at all vegan over here. So the really cool thing is that it's not really about what the outside looks like, that no matter what is happening, whether it's loads of activity, a little bit of activity, whether you are, as Giselle says, you're going through a depressive phase, or whether you're going through some sort of really excited phase. As long as you are aware that this is something that is. That is working for you. So after the break, what we're going to be talking about is some concrete things, some concrete steps that we can take in order to move ourselves forward. And as always, we shall have a roundup of the takeaways from our wonderful associate producer, Ellsworth. And also remember that you can always just write to me so infoudymay tv, or just reach out through social media and let me know what it is that you want for future shows. Because this show is based on things that a lot of you have been saying to me in your messages, and I do read all of them. So please know that I am listening. I am here for you, and everything is designed in order to look after you and also let us know what some of your wins are. So from today, what were some things that you might not have thought of and then you heard Alex and Giselle talking about their wonderful lives and you decided that, yeah, you know what? I'm going to do this and this and this. Let us know. And also I'll pass that on to the ladies as well. Let them, let them know that because that's a huge thing. As women, we don't often get directly encouraged to do things. We often have to fight in order to be able to get the same things that our brothers get, that the men get. Inspire each other. Let's excite each other for the life adventures that are ahead of us. And we've got even more life adventures coming up after this. Welcome to Women's Radio Station. This is the show where you tell me what's happening in your life and I listen and together we transform everything. This is Judy Mae Murphy and I've been listening to what it is that you've been saying about your life. Saying that there's a lot of good things, but you're just not feeling it. And this is why we've been talking all about adventure today with Giselle from New York and with Alex from Norway, but Alex from Norway via Poland. So she's actually speaking to us in her third language today. How's that for an adventure? I mean, you're so right. I'm an adventurer in languages too. And the idea that, you know, I could probably cope if I was having to do a radio show in French, but Spanish or Russian, I'd be struggling. So we're just so admiring you today, just how beautifully you're speaking and how you're coming across. I feel excited about it, you know, bit nervous and a little bit excited, which is a good mix. Yeah. Because it didn't even occur to me when I asked you to be on the show that that might be a thing. But it's sort of like, you know, how is it that we, that we make sure that the things don't get in the way? Because sometimes it's, you know, ideas about how can I actually make this happen, but then sometimes it's also internal stuff that can, that can kind of get in our way. So what would you, Giselle, what would you say is sort of a checklist that you have, even if it's unconscious until now. What would be things that people can do in order to make sure that they actually step into the adventure and don't stay sitting outside of it and saying, one day, that would be nice. It's a pity that I think the morning routine is part of that. The morning routine sets you up to explore what you want, to organize your day, to get creative and to get everything out that you don't want to take on with the other people. So for those for whom the morning routine is get off, maybe shower, grab a coffee, what would be your idea of a morning routine? So mine. The first thing that I do is write in my morning pages. On a good day, it's three pages. On a rush day, it's like five lines, but there's something on the paper. And then. So that's just like journaling, right? Yes, journaling. Just having ideas and putting them on the page. Just putting them on the page. And, like, sometimes I'll just, like, write the Lord's Prayer, because I have nothing to say. So I'm literally writing prayers on the page. And that's also where I find my church is in that, because I don't go to church, but I pray every day, and I do it through my morning pages. And then what else do I do? Oh, I read. I do my codependency meditations, and then I do a little bit of reading about that. And then you're a part of it. I listen to the priming, right? Oh, yeah. Every morning, that is. If you just go to YouTube. Judy Mae Murphy priming affirmations. Ten minutes of really high quality. I think you've got. You've got waves in the background. You got a little bit of music going on right side, left side sound, stereo, hypnosis. It's the whole business. And that actually just came from my morning routine, that these were things I said to myself for years. And then I wanted to put it down on audio so that I could play it. Like, if I was on my way to the airport and couldn't read because I'd get the sick in the car reading then and then just shared it with everybody. So I didn't know that was part of your morning routine. That's mine, too. Oh, my goodness. Melis. How about you, Marina? Everybody else, let's get everybody on board. No, literally, I do it and I look into your eyes and I feel, you know, because this is only my third time meeting Judy May in person, so me having that, I really feel like you're There with me, you know, because it's such a beautiful picture. And I'm like, here she is with me and getting me ready for my day. And I can, like, sing along or talk along with it now. Wow. Because if anyone had asked me, how many times have you met Giselle in person? I'd have said 10. It probably feels that way. Feels that way, doesn't it? Yeah, absolutely. How about you, Alex? Because your morning routine's a little bit different because you got two little ones. Yes. Quite active little ones. Yes. I have a son. He's four and a half, and my daughter is three. By the way, the story of their birth is also an adventure because no one, when I was pregnant with the first one, I already knew that I wanted to have a natural birth. And no one really asked me if I wanted to give birth in a hospital or at home. Like, I got the question, which hospital? So it didn't occur to me that that was a possibility, giving birth at home. And then just a few weeks before the due date, I suddenly got this epiphany. Hey, I can actually do it at home the way I want to. My parents weren't happy about it, so I decided to lie just to not make them upset. So I said I would go to the hospital, and the hospital wanted me in as well, because it was 11 days after the due date. And I still said, no, I trust myself. I want to do it my way. And that was the best birth in the world. And it was, wow. Now I don't have any children, but I know this for a fact, that for me, just even giving birth would be enough of an adventure that after that, I would just be like, okay, I want to be hospitaled up. I want to give birth in four hospitals. I want a few spare hospitals and a few spare doctors and ambulance, like, within month, three. I want an ambulance there all the time. So it's kind of interesting, we were talking, you know, at the top of the show about how different people have different levels of risk and what for some people would be adventure for some other people would just be like, no. So I just love that, that you have that huge capacity for that. But back to my morning. So, yes. So of course, the fact that I have two little trolls jumping around the house before we manage to get them into the kindergarten affected my morning routine a lot. But I always try to have at least, like, five minutes in bed because I'm in the slow motion in the morning where I ask myself, what am I grateful for? And what am I looking forward to during that day just to remind myself and get into this state that this day is going to be adventurous as well. And then once my kids are in kindergarten, I will take this time to prepare for my day. So my morning routine comes a little bit after our morning adventures, because you never know what will happen happen with them. What I love about both of your morning routines is that you really are opening yourselves up to adventure from the start. That you are, you know, having a fresh expectation that, you know, Giselle with you with your morning pages, that you're sort of saying, you know, well, who am I today and what's going on for me today? And Alex, with your sort of gratitude, you're saying, well, you know, what's the reality of the world? It's not just the biggest problem that I have to solve today, that there's more to my day that I am supported. And I really, really love that. So having a great morning routine, let's have that as our step number one to sort of bring you into adventure. And then how is it that you become inspired to adventure? Is it usually through people or is it through just, you know, seeing someone doing something great in a movie or. What is your inspiration? I'm inspired, like on the fly. And that's usually how, like, my social media comes up too. You know, it's very curated on that in the moment inspiration. And I just kind of, when I'm not occupied with other things, I'm just open and observing and really, through that observing of what's happening, I just pick up on the little things, on the signs, on the noises. Just really kind of, what's the word? Is it navigating according to sort of like, that looks cool. I'll have a little bit more of that. Yeah. And then also taking the time, like, if I feel I'm just in a stuck place, what do I need right now? Like, what do I need? What's gonna really make me feel on fire? Oh, always a great question. What do I need right now? Yes, I'm looking for more of that. Beautiful. How about you, Alex? What do you do for inspiration? I think I get out of my head because usually there is loads going on in my head, but when it's kind of empty or I just feel that it's going around and around and around with the same thoughts. I would just really consciously look around me just to see what else is there that I haven't been noticing up till now. Or it might be that I will search an interesting person that I know will inspire me with which whatever they would say on YouTube, for instance. Yes. Or in my environment, if I have any people around me asking new questions. Really beautiful. And what if the phrases I know that you love as well. Yeah. Asking myself, what if? What if this was possible? What if that was possible? And then exploring that. Because I think that the important thing to say to someone that is a little bit afraid of taking action is asking yourself, okay, what's the worst thing that can happen? Thing is, whenever I ask myself that question, my brain comes up with a really great, detailed movie that it starts showing. This is the worst that could happen, and it just becomes a big, big disaster. Maybe. But I get what you're saying that, you know, if you're. If you're not feeling triggered that day and you're actually on a pretty even keel and you say, what's the worst that could happen? Or maybe. What do we have to lose? Yeah. And as long as your brain doesn't come up with the answer your entire existence, then usually you start. You're right. You start to see that, in fact, you know what? Maybe a little bit of dignity, maybe a little bit of time, maybe even a little bit of money, but that's okay. So that's worth it. That's worth the ticket. That's a great ticket price, isn't it? For what you could get from whatever it is that you're doing. So we're looking at great morning routine to prime us to the idea of having an adventurous day and also then getting really, really inspired. And Elspeth. Elspeth is our associate producer here. Elspeth, what are your three takeaways from today? What are the three things that you're going to be looking at in order to make your life even more adventurous? So my top three are the keyword new. Just try something new each week. Pick a new adventure. Adventure doesn't have to be big. It can be small. And go quickly from an idea to an adventure. Oh, lovely. I absolutely love that. Yeah, that's just. That's captured it so, so beautifully. So I just. We've got very little time left. Unless. Just about a minute left. And so just add. Alex, One more idea from you. Yes. I was thinking about it on my way here that really, the biggest adventure you can experience each and each and every single day is when you have this big dream that sometimes feels impossible or that others might think is impossible or looks impossible to them if you just take tiny, tiny steps every single day to make it happen. Really, that's probably the biggest adventure of them all the dream, making the dream come true as the adventure. Giselle, really quickly, what is your one last thing you'd like to say to our wonderful listeners? To tap into your imagination and if you can't take the action, just sit there and imagine and pretend like you're doing it. Pretend like you're doing and then you'll find that the world will join in with that. I really want to thank our guests because they have come a very long way and they had a lot of things they could be doing in life today and they chose to come in and be part of Judy Mayes listening. And I really hope that when you're back again that you'll come and join us again. And also thank you so much for all of the great things that you've been sending us in here on the show. Myself and Elspeth and Melis and Marina are very, very grateful to you. We are a team here. We are listening and we really look forward to seeing you again next week.
